Research the Quantitation of Buffering Action. Ii. Applications of the Formal and General Approach. Buffering in Pure Water

چکیده
Buffering of H+ and OHions in pure water probably represent the most primal physicochemical buffering phenomena, and their quantitative description is of great interest. In this context, “pure water” shall mean water without any solutes that could act as H+ buffers. In the following, it is understood that addition of H+ ions to pure water, or removal of H+ ions from it is carried out in the form of “strong” acids or bases, respectively. To obtain an explicit quantitative description of buffering in pure water according to our concept of buffering (Buffering I), we first recapitulate a standard mathematical model describing the concentrations of OHand H+ ions in water as functions of added strong acid or base. Then, we form the corresponding “buffered system” and derive from it the four buffering parameters t, b, T, and B. For positive constants c and d, the coefficients t and b will always assume values between 0 and 1. Such a buffering behavior, which is also characteristic of H+ buffering in pure water (Buffering II Supplement 2), was classified as “noninverting moderation” (Buffering I). The accompanying paper presented a general method to construct communicating vessel-models of noninverting moderation (Buff...

The paradigm of “buffering” is applied to multiple phenomena of diverse nature. Similarly, a great variety of units for the quantitation of buffering action has been proposed. Fundamental aspects regarding the definition and quantitation of “buffering” remain unclear or unresolved. i) Is there a single common principle behind these diverse buffering phenomena? Or is “buffer” an equivocal label ...

Introduction: Since pharmaceutical syrups are widely taken by children in Iran, drop of pH in oral cavity and dental decay resulted from the syrups are of high importance. This research aims to study buffering properties of saliva when in contact with some of vitamin syrups available in pharmaceutical market of Iran. Methods: In the present study, 1 milliliter (ml) of 6 samples of vitamin sy...
متن کاملThe quantitation of buffering action II . Applications of the formal & general approach Bernhard
Background: The paradigm of "buffering" originated in acid-base physiology, but was subsequently extended to other fields and is now used for a wide and diverse set of phenomena. In the preceding article, we have presented a formal and general approach to the quantitation of buffering action. Here, we use that buffering concept for a systematic treatment of selected classical and other bufferin...
متن کاملDesorption Kinetics of Heavy Metals (Lead, Zinc, and Nickel) Coexisted with Phenanthrene from a Natural High Buffering Soil
This work aims to investigate the competitive time-dependent desorption rate of heavy metals (lead, zinc, nickel) coexisting with phenanthrene from natural high buffering soil. Two non-ionic surfactants (Tween 80 and Brij 35) combined with disodium ethylene diamine tetraacetate salt (Na2-EDTA) were utilized as the reagents. The contaminants’ time-dependent desorption data was fitted with five k...
